NCI Thesaurus OBO compliance
Open Biomedical Ontology compliance of the National Cancer Institute Thesaurus
One of the most used and valuable standard terminology is the NCI Thesaurus. In a research project, the NCI Thesaurus was found to be non-conformant to good ontology practices. Based on the criticism, Apelon devised and demonstrated a solution to bring the NCI Thesaurus into OBO compliance. The success of the Apelon approach was demonstrated using a sample set from the current NCI thesaurus. As a result of the prototype, the NCI has begun the process of implementing the solution into the next genreation of the NCI Thesaurus, named BiomedGT.
